Group photography is a special genre among various photographies. When shooting is for a large group on various occasions, the supporting stairs (that is, stairs for people to stand ) are needed, which imposes huge challenges on the shooting. Moreover, it’s prone to make mistakes under the pressure of the limited time, and such mistakes are irreparable.
Usually, I would take group photographs for some corporations and institutions. In Guangzhou, quantities of companies offer such service. I’ve witnessed all kinds of shooting scenes, and conclude that good photographs flow from the heart, instead of being casually casted after the group stands a good team and then the photographer yields “qiezi”(that is “eggplant”, a Chinese way to bring everyone to smile in photographing).
This is a photo I took for the alumni association of Hehai University. As the photo was shot in a hotel lobby, challenges are imaginable: the obstruction from the hotel security guards, the noncooperation from the front desk manager, combined with the time limitation. However, after hurdling all these obstacles and hinderances, everyone’s smile was finally captured in the photo. Nice!
